A youth-based support group, the Evidence Group, has inaugurated its working committee in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, pledging to mobilise grassroots support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, which operates in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC), charged its newly inaugurated leaders to establish structures across wards and polling units to expand its reach among residents, particularly youths and women.
Speaking during the inauguration, Director-General of the Evidence Group, Mr Eyoma Bassey, urged members to take their mobilisation campaign to communities and tertiary institutions, while warning against intimidation and abuse of political positions.
“We are not here to intimidate people. We are not here to tell anybody that you are a coordinator in Evidence. We are here to work for Evidence and work for APC,” Bassey said.
He warned that any coordinator found intimidating members of the public would be removed, stressing that the group expected its officials to conduct themselves responsibly while carrying out their assignments.
Bassey directed the newly inaugurated working committee to return to their respective wards and establish polling unit structures, subject to approval by the group’s leadership.
He added that names of proposed coordinators and other officials must be submitted for vetting before any appointments or structures could be publicly announced.
Responding on behalf of the Ogoja chapter, its coordinator, Jude Fingha, pledged that members would work to fulfil the responsibility entrusted to them and strengthen the group’s grassroots presence.
Fingha urged young people to become more involved in political mobilisation, saying the group was ready to intensify its activities in support of the APC.
Also speaking, the Evidence Group’s women mobilisation leader, Precious Bessong, called on women to engage their families, friends and communities in the group’s political activities.
She described women as influential in shaping political participation within families and communities, urging them to mobilise support for Tinubu, Otu and the APC.
“When you empower a woman, you are empowering a nation. When you support a woman, you are supporting the husband and the children. That means when you support a woman, everybody is covered,” Bessong said.
She encouraged women to communicate the group’s political message to their husbands, children and friends, emphasising the need for broader participation in its mobilisation efforts.
Bessong also announced that the group had set aside tokens for some market women as part of activities at the event.
