NANS urges Tinubu to give NIPC boss greater national responsibilities

Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Barrister Aisha Rimi

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged President Bola Tinubu to entrust the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Barrister Aisha Rimi, with greater national responsibilities, citing improved institutional stability and administrative discipline under her leadership.

The association said Rimi had demonstrated purposeful leadership since assuming office, particularly in addressing internal and external disputes that previously characterised the commission.

In a statement issued by NANS Public Relations Officer, Comrade David Obidah, he said the relative stability recorded at the agency reflected Rimi’s commitment to constructive dialogue, effective stakeholder engagement and responsible administration.

He noted that the absence of recurring disputes that previously disrupted the commission’s operations was evidence of her ability to manage institutional challenges and promote organisational harmony.

Obidah said the development deserved recognition, especially at a time when Nigeria needed competent leadership to strengthen public institutions and improve service delivery.

The association also commended the NIPC boss for prioritising staff welfare, saying a motivated workforce remained critical to institutional productivity and the effective discharge of organisational responsibilities.

According to the students’ body, Rimi’s attention to employees’ welfare and efforts to create a more conducive working environment have helped promote an atmosphere where workers can perform their duties with renewed commitment, dignity and professionalism.

The spokesperson said public institutions could only achieve their mandates when personnel felt valued, adequately supported and motivated to contribute to organisational growth.

NANS also lauded the commission for providing opportunities for Industrial Training (IT) students and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to acquire practical experience and professional skills.

The statement described the initiative as an important investment in young Nigerians, noting that exposure to the operations of a strategic government institution would help prepare beneficiaries for future employment and professional responsibilities.

The association said such opportunities demonstrated an understanding that public institutions had responsibilities beyond routine administration, particularly in developing the country’s human capital.

“Investing in young people is not merely an institutional obligation but a strategic investment in the future of our country,” Obidah said.

NANS maintained that Rimi’s leadership had reinforced the importance of institutional stability, workforce motivation and youth development in achieving sustainable national progress.

It urged the Federal Government to recognise and encourage public officials whose leadership translated into improved institutional performance and opportunities for younger generations.

“At a time when Nigeria urgently requires competent institutional management, administrative stability and leaders capable of translating public mandates into measurable progress, we believe that leadership records such as these deserve recognition and encouragement,” the statement added.

Consequently, the association appealed to President Tinubu to consider Rimi for higher responsibilities, arguing that her administrative experience, leadership approach and commitment to institutional development made her worthy of consideration for broader national assignments.

It said Nigeria’s development aspirations required the strategic deployment of individuals capable of strengthening institutions, fostering harmonious working environments and creating opportunities for young people.

NANS, however, urged Rimi to sustain the gains recorded at the commission, deepen institutional reforms and continue advancing initiatives that would strengthen investment promotion, youth development and economic growth.

“The true measure of leadership is not merely the office one occupies, but the positive institutional legacy one builds and the opportunities one creates for others,” the association said.
