The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed reports that African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was kidnapped by armed thugs in Ado-Ekiti.
The command said Sowore was involved in an altercation with some individuals at a restaurant in the Dalimore area of the state capital, following which the police were alerted.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, said operatives responded to the report and rescued Sowore from the scene.
He added that the politician sustained a minor injury and was receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.
The command said the Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye Michael, had ordered a discreet investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those involved.
It added that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice.
The police urged members of the public to disregard reports of an alleged kidnapping and avoid sharing unverified information capable of causing panic and tension.
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, irrespective of political affiliation or status.
