Police probe beheading of teenager in C’River, recover AK-47, ammunition in Ogun

Recovered arms and magazine

The police have launched an investigation into the discovery of the beheaded body of an unidentified teenager in Yahe River, Yala Local Council of Cross River State, as their counterparts in Ogun State recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a Mercedes-Benz GLK in separate operations in Ota.

The Cross River State Police Command said the teenager, estimated to be about 16 years old, was recovered from the river following a report on October 27, 2026.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Calabar yesterday, saying the incident was reported at about 5.30 p.m. by the Officer-in-Charge of Yahe Outstation, ASP Ekurbe Abi.

According to the statement, the teenager’s body was found with the head severed, while bloodstains at the scene raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The police said the corpse had been subjected to medical examination and deposited in a mortuary, while efforts were ongoing to identify the deceased and establish the circumstances of his death.

The Commissioner of Police, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has ordered a thorough investigation to unravel the incident and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.

The Ogun State Police Command recorded another breakthrough in its security operations in Ota with the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and a Mercedes-Benz GLK.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a statement yesterday that the exhibits were recovered following a search of the unregistered vehicle.

He said the vehicle and the recovered items had been secured, while investigations were continuing to establish their ownership and possible connection with criminal activities.

The latest recovery follows an earlier operation at Ijaba, Iyesi, Ota, where police operatives responding to a robbery incident neutralised a suspected armed robber and recovered two vehicles, suspected stolen property and a locally made pistol with ammunition.
