The Ogun State Police Command has intensified efforts to tackle cultism and other social vices among young people through a youth leadership and crime prevention campaign organised in partnership with Royal Ambassadors Nigeria.

The sensitisation programme, led by the Ogun State Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), took place at the Royal Ambassadors Nigeria National Leadership Training Conference, tagged “Divine Companion”, which brought together teenagers and young adults from across the country.

According to the Command image maker, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the initiative, under the leadership of the Ogun State Commissioner of police, Bode Ojajuni, was aimed at promoting responsible leadership, positive values and awareness of the dangers of criminal activities among young people.

Babaseyi stated the delegation led by the state POCACOV coordinator, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, alongside officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), engaged participants on the dangers of cultism, cybercrime, substance abuse, negative peer pressure and deceptive recruitment tactics.

He explained that the participants were urged to exercise self-discipline, make responsible decisions and resist influences that could jeopardise their future.

While addressing the conference, ASP Opeyemi said young people had a crucial role to play in building a peaceful and secure society, adding that early value reorientation and responsible leadership were essential to preventing crime.

He urged the teenagers and young adults to embrace integrity, accountability, patriotism and positive community engagement, stressing that their choices would have a significant impact on the future of their communities and the country.

The police said such preventive initiatives would continue as part of efforts to strengthen public safety and discourage young people from becoming involved in criminal activities.

The group described collaboration between law enforcement agencies and faith-based youth organisations as an important means of nurturing responsible young leaders and discouraging criminal behaviour.

Participants at the event pledged to uphold high moral standards, reject social vices and promote peace and positive values in their respective communities.

POCACOV Ogun State said it remained committed to sustained engagement with young people and community-based crime prevention initiatives, adding that investment in responsible youth leadership was central to building a safer society.
