Youths have been urged to shun cultism, cybercrime, substance abuse and other social vices as part of efforts to build responsible leaders and safer communities.

The call was made by the Ogun State Police Command during a youth sensitisation programme organised in partnership with Royal Ambassadors Nigeria.

The programme, facilitated by the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), was held at the Peter Akinola Foundation, Obada, Ogun State, as part of the Royal Ambassadors Nigeria National Leadership Training Conference.

With the theme, “Divine Companion,” the event brought together teenagers and young adults from across the country for leadership development and crime prevention advocacy.

The State Coordinator of POCACOV, ASP Opeyemi Oluborode, alongside officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), educated participants on the dangers of cultism, cybercrime, substance abuse, negative peer influence and deceptive recruitment tactics.

Oluborode stressed the important role of young people in building a peaceful and secure society, noting that early value reorientation and responsible leadership were essential to preventing criminal behaviour.

He urged participants to embrace integrity, accountability, patriotism and positive community engagement, stressing that their choices would significantly influence the future of their communities and the country.

The police officer also warned against deceptive recruitment strategies used to lure young people into criminal activities, urging them to exercise self-discipline, make responsible decisions and resist negative influences capable of jeopardising their future.
