Known as the “Queen of YouTube” for her blockbuster movies, Nollywood movie producer and actor, Omoni Oboli is welcoming movie lovers to the 2026 Yuletide season with Seven Christmas Mixer, supported by MTN Nigeria.

The movies were unveiling brought together actors, filmmakers, content creators and other stakeholders from the creative industry to celebrate Nigerian storytelling and the festive film season.

The movies, the first of which will be released on November 13, 2026 explore themes of love, drama, and forgiveness, among others, and are backed by MTN Nigeria.

Speaking with The Guardian during the unveiling at the MTN Rooftop Event Centre in Falomo, Lagos, Oboli described the project as an effort to make the festive period colorful and enjoyable for everyone this Christmas.

“We are starting the releases in the second week of November. I want to do more; I want people to get into the Christmas mood,” Oboli said.

“Christmas is authentic; it’s the celebration of the birth of Christ. Christ was born for us. Christmas is the celebration of our King. Christmas is a season that reminds us of everything Jesus represents, which is love, togetherness, and forgiveness, because He came to forgive our sins. So, Christmas is authentic.”

When asked how long she has been working on the projects, she said: “We have been working on the movies for five months. I have new faces in my movies, and that is deliberate. We have to nurture the next generation, so for me, it’s important. My channel is not meant to show that I am a big star, but rather an avenue to help and shine a light on other people, the same way God has helped me. I am a firm believer that your own candle does not lose its light by lighting other people’s candles.”

Addressing her strategy, she added: “I didn’t pick YouTube over cinemas; I will still release my movie in the cinema next year. YouTube is simply an easier way to continue working and for my team to keep earning. If I do only one movie a year for Netflix or the cinema, what happens during the rest of the year? But with my YouTube channel, families are being fed, and students are going to school.”

When asked about her partnership with MTN, she said: “My partnership with MTN started long ago, and that relationship has fueled the making of these seven movies for Christmas.
“MTN is a brand I absolutely love. It has been a seamless and beautiful partnership. When I brought our second Christmas movie idea to MTN, they were more than excited to be part of it. The partnership has helped me make these movies better, bigger, and bolder.”

Also speaking at the event, General Manager, Consumer Segments at MTN Nigeria, Idowu Adesokan, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the creative economy and its potential to create jobs, build businesses and take Nigerian stories to wider audiences. He noted that the collaboration with Omoni Oboli TV, alongside MTN’s strategic partnership with YouTube, is part of the company’s efforts to create opportunities for local talent and connect audiences with Nigerian content.

“At MTN, we recognise that connectivity goes beyond access to the internet. It is an enabler of creativity, innovation and economic opportunity. We believe Nigeria’s creative industry has enormous potential to entertain, create jobs, build businesses and take our stories to the world,” he said.

Also speaking, YouTube Consultant, Berene Jankovich-Besan, highlighted the importance of partnerships in growing digital content consumption in Nigeria. She also identified affordability and access to suitable devices as some of the factors influencing digital adoption, adding that collaborations with telecommunications companies such as MTN can help address barriers to accessing online content.

Jankovich-Besan also explained that YouTube’s partnership with MTN involves using content from creators’ channels in marketing campaigns to introduce their work to wider audiences. She said the approach deliberately identifies the creators and their channels in promotional materials, helping viewers find and follow them on the platform.

“We want to make sure that the channel name is there so we can drive traffic to the creator channels on YouTube. Ultimately, success for us would be if those channels keep growing and have more subscribers,” she said.

The seven Christmas productions mark another step in the collaboration between MTN Nigeria and Omoni Oboli TV, bringing together content creation, digital distribution and affordable connectivity to support the reach of Nigerian entertainment.
