Presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has used Nigeria’s Flamingos’ triumph at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco to highlight the country’s enormous talent potential.
He pointed to the fact that young Nigerians can compete globally when given the right opportunities.
Obi said the young footballers had demonstrated the Nigerian spirit of resilience, hard work and determination through their remarkable achievement.
In a congratulatory message, the former Anambra State governor said the Flamingos had not only raised the nation’s flag high but also brought joy and renewed pride to Nigerians.
He argued that the team’s performance demonstrated what Nigerian youths could accomplish when their abilities were recognised and provided with the necessary platform to flourish.
“The Flamingos just showed the world what Nigerian talent can do when given the platform. Talent, resilience, hard work — that’s the Nigerian spirit,” Obi said.
He praised the players for their dedication and sacrifices, adding that their achievement had earned them a special place in the hearts of Nigerians.
“Congratulations, champions! You have made the entire nation proud,” he said.
Obi’s message ended with his familiar political slogan, “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
