Three members of staff of Dana Pharmaceutical Company Limited, Minna, a subsidiary of Dana Group have been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly stealing property of the company worth over N20 million.
Those arrested: the Administrative Officer (AO), Mr. Devendran Sawant, an Indian, Purchasing Officer (PO), Mr. Johnson Bitrus and Chief Security Officer (CSO), one Mr. Adeyinka; were said to have connived to steal engine scraps and other things belonging to the company.
It was gathered that while the two Nigerians have been suspended for their involvement, the administrative officer, the only Indian and who masterminded the act is free. DCO Nazir Mohammed of the Divisional Police headquarters in Maitumbi confirmed the arrest but said the company’s senior officer has bailed the suspects while investigation was still going on.
Although the suspects have been released on bail, police said investigation was still going on as the buyer of the goods was said to have travelled out of the state. The Admin Officer (AO) was said to have masterminded the act when he asked the Purchasing Officer to get a buyer of the said properties.
The Chief Security Officer was however, brought into the deal when he was agreed to open the gate on the orders of the Admin Officer unknown to him that the stolen items were being move out of the premises. When contacted the General Manager of the company, Mr. Rama said he could not comment on the issue but simply said “there is no story for now.”
However, the company Superintendent Pharmacist Godwin Ediagbonya confirmed the incident but said that he could not comment on it because he was away when the theft occurred.
