A NON-governmental group, Centre for Reform Education Initiative (CREI) has commended the economic blueprint of Enugu State, saying it is capable of navigating the state through the prevailing period of downturn in the nation’s economy.

In a statement issued by its Executive Director, Hon. Chinwe Ugwu, CREI expressed satisfaction with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s economic policies.

It noted that the constitution of an Economic Advisory Committee by the Governor to advise government on best economic policies that would engender sustainable growth and development for the state to navigate through the adverse effects of the negative development in the nation’s economy was commendable.

“The quality of personalities that make up this committee is a testimony that the governor is truly committed to moving Enugu State to the next level. With trusted and tested Enugu indigenes such as the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu as members of that committee, we have no doubts in our minds that the governor is poised to offer quality service to the state,” Ugwu said.

The group also commended Governor Ugwuanyi’s commitment to prompt payment of workers’ salaries and allowances in the state.

CREI described as the Governor’s commitment towards improved welfare for civil servants in the state as “a step in the right direction.”

CREI specifically noted the event of September 1, 2015, where the Governor extended his spirit of goodwill and love to 100 lucky civil servants in the state between Grade Level 1-10, who won one bedroom apartment each at the Elim Estate for which his administration had paid 30 per cent equity contribution of the total cost of each flat under its housing scheme for public servants.
