Artan, who was expected to make history as the first Somali referee at a World Cup, was stopped from entering the US despite holding valid FIFA credentials. Reacting to the development, Infantino said FIFA does not control immigration decisions made by host countries, stressing that such matters remain under government authority. He, however, noted that the situation was regrettable given Artan’s role and the significance of his selection.
