THE Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk Umar, yesterday said President Muhammadu Buhari appointed the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu and his elder sister, Hajiya Hadiza Zakari, former Acting Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who is now an INEC national commissioner because they have been tested and trusted.
The emir, who disclosed this at an award ceremony organised by the Emir of Kazaure, Alhaji Najib Adamu, to honour the sons and daughters of the emirate who have excelled, said Kazaure and Daura emirates have been each other’s keepers from time immemorial.
The Daura monarch said he is aware of allegations that Buhari has favoured the people of Kazuare more than Daura emirates in his appointments so far, explaining that Daura and Kazaure have maintained close relationship over the years.
Alhaji Umar said the choice of the Minister of Water Resources and Hadiza Zakari was informed by the trust and confidence existing between the families of late Emir Hussieni Adamu of Kazaure and the President, adding that the family gave full support to Buhari when others deserted him.
The monarch supported the appointments, which he said are well deserved.
In his remark at the occasion, the Emir of Kazaure decried the undue influence of the social media, which he said is fast eroding Islamic and African values and tradition, adding that for his emirate to move forward, the people must embrace education.
About 100 sons and daughters of the emirate were honoured. Hajiya Zakari, who spoke on behalf of the recipients, thanked the emirate for the honor, adding that they will do their best to serve meritoriously during their tenure.
