FINALLY, the management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has made good its words by replacing the bedbug-infested beds and has also begun the fumigation of the hostels.

The work, which started within the week, would be completed within the month so that the students can go back to their hostels.

Last September, students of the school staged a protest over the invasion of bedbugs in their halls of residence, as well as the unsanitary conditions of the hostels, which according to them, should be regularly fumigated for their safety and wellbeing.

However, the Deputy Registrar (Information), Mr. Olagoke Oke, said then that efforts were underway to sanitise the hostels and also change the mattresses.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rahamon Bello, not wanting a recurrence of what happened in the school, described as embarrassing the situation, has now made good his word.

This will in no way improve the school’s image, especially as parents and visitors stormed the school during its matriculation ceremony held on Saturday.

However, some students would want this to be a periodical thing to keep the school safe. They also called for the destruction of all materials infested by bedbugs so that the insects would not return.
