
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun comand has intercepted six vehicles and one truck loaded with 1,165 of 50kg bags of imported rice.
Some of the fairly used vehicles used for the imported rice were three Volkwagen Golf cars, Two Mazda bus and one green coloured Mazda 323 car.
Addressing reporters at the command Headquarters in Ibadan, the Controller, Temitope Ogunkua said one person was arrested alongside the trucks while five of the vehicles were laden with 265 bags of 50kg rice.
He said that the remaining one car out of the six cars was arrested for duty evasion.Ogunkua said that the estimated duty Paid Value for the 165 bags of rice in the trucks and cars was N10.6m
The Customs boss who just assumed duty said he is determined to build on the success records of his predecessors both in revenue generation and anti-smuggling activities.
“As we all know, the Nigeria Customs service is very strategic in the sustenance of the Nation’s economy at this critical stage of economy down turn. Maximum revenue generation is paramount in the heart of the Controller General of Customs, Col. Hammed ibrahim (rtd).
“The present administration has zero tolerance for corruption and revenue leakages in all its ramifications, the command is committed to enforcing same” he said.
