ASCSN appoints Okon acting national president
The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has appointed its acting national president to steer the affairs of the union. The appointee, Dr. Tommy Okon, was a national vice president of the association.
The union in a statement signed by Secretary-General, Alade Bashir Lawal, said the National Executive Council (NEC) of the association at an emergency meeting held in Abuja, last week, unanimously resolved to appoint Okon as the acting national president of the union to oversee the activities of the association till NEC directs otherwise.
He said the appointment was sequel to certain unforeseen development that confronted the union recently.
According to the ASCSN, Okon was a two-term unit chairman of the association at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The statement added that Okon, who had attended International Labour Organisation (ILO) conferences in Geneva, Switzerland, for more than 10 years, is abreast with contemporary industrial relations best practices and the structures of the trade unions in line with ILO standards.
