The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has commended the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for achieving N650 billion revenue generation in June.

The union, in a statement, said it was remarkable that despite the economic meltdown occasioned by the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, the Service was able to generate more than N650 billion in June, the highest in one month since the global outbreak.

National President, ASCSN, Tommy Okon, and Secretary-General, Alade Lawal, said with the performance and if given further motivation, the agency would generate suffiacient revenue to finance the Federal Government’s annual budgets.

The union attributed the increase in the revenue as a product of the new tax reform, Tax Administration Solution (TaxProMax), introduced by the management team to ease tax compliance.

According to the statement: “The new tax regime which took off on June 7, 2021, enhances seamless registration, filing, payment of taxes and automatic credit of withholding tax as well as other credits to tax payers’ accounts including a single-view to tax payers for all transactions with the Agency.”

The workers urged the government to provide the FIRS with an enabling environment and tools needed for optimal performance.
