ASUU appoints Igbafen as Benin zonal coordinator

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has approved the appointment of Dr. Monday Igbafen as the new Coordinator for Benin Zone of the union.

The letter of appointment by the National Chairman, Prof. Emmanuel Osodoke, stated that Igbafen’s appointment was due to his commitment and unwavering support to the cause of the union.
Igbafen, the immediate past chairperson of the local chapter of the union at the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, takes over from Prof. Fred Esumeh, who successfully served two tenures as zonal coordinator of the Benin Zone.

As a zonal coordinator, Igbafen is to coordinate the activities of the union in the seven universities, which comprise the University of Benin (UNIBEN); Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma; and Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU), Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

Other schools in the zone are the Federal University of Petroleum and Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, Delta State; University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor; Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka; and Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State.

Igbafen, of the Department of Philosophy, is expected to bear his vast experience in union activism in his new assignment, having served in various committees at the national level of the union.

The new zonal coordinator has also served as secretary, vice chairperson and chairperson of ASUU, AAU, Ekpoma chapter, among others.
