Borno pays 10,319 workers, pensioners’ leave grants, gratuities


Governor Babagana Umara of Borno State has approved the payment of outstanding leave grants and pension of 10,319 workers and pensioners.

The 2018 approved payments; include gratuities for 421 deceased pensioners and their families.A statement by the Special Adviser on Public Relations and Strategy to the Governor, Isa Gusau, disclosed that Umara directed the Head of Service (HoS), Mohammed Hassan, to work out the approved payment with the Ministry of Finance.

According to him, liaising with Finance Ministry was to ensure payment into beneficiaries’ banks accounts. He said the Governor’s approvals also included the payment of furniture allowance to two permanent secretaries, who were in the office when the Governor paid an unscheduled visit to the Secretariat on May 31, 2019.

The Governor had during his visit, trapped absentee permanent secretaries, directors, and other categories of workers, and had also caught many latecomers.

Consequently, he pledged to sanction absentees and those who arrived late, and promised a reward for the punctual permanent secretaries and 96 workers during the visit.Gusau added: “In fulfilment of his promise, the Governor rewarded the permanent secretaries with speedy approval of their furniture allowances.

“Umara also gave order for early release of the 2019 leave grant to the 96 workers he found in office last May.“The same workers were also included for payment of the 2018 outstanding leave grants. Governor Umara’s approval also included payment of temporary salaries and pension to 56 workers, and 51 pensioners, who are yet to fully comply with workers’ biometric data capture for salaries and pension.”
