Buni engages 39 workers, to digitalise two media outfits

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has engaged 39 workers in the bid to digitalise the state’s television and radio stations.

According to him, the recruitment exercise was to meet manpower requirements for the ongoing digitisation of Yobe Broadcasting Corporation, and State Television (YBC, YTV).

The two media outfits, established by Sen. Bukar Ibrahim in 1992, are located on Gashua and Gujba roads, Damaturu, the state capital.

While announcing the recruitment exercise before officials of the YTV and YBC in Damaturu, the Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Bego, said: “Governor Buni has already approved N67 million for the ‘overhaul and digitalization’ of media outfits; were established by Sen. Bukar Abba Ibrahim about three decades ago.

“He also directed the formulation of strategies that will ensure effective implementation of the digitization process,” noting that the digitalisation process comprises equipping and staff strengthening for capacity deliveries.

He added that the next step was to train and retrain the recruited staff of the two media outfits for efficiency while performing their jobs.

“The casual staff billed for employment were serving at the stations for more than eight years,” he said, noting that the recruitment was in recognition of their experiences in radio and television broadcasts and dedication to duty.

He, therefore, commended RATTAWU and other members of the organisation for their effort in informing, enlightening, and entertaining the public.

RATTAWU’s Chairman, Nasiru Illiya, said they had come to express their gratitude to the giant strides of Buni, particularly the digitization of the two media organisations.

“Sir, we are equally very grateful to note that within your short stay as Commissioner for Information, we have started witnessing a positive transformation in the media sector,” he said, adding that award of contracts worth millions of naira for upgrading YBC and YTV from analogue to digital transmission is commendable.
