The Secretary of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Chapter, Olusegun Abatan, has called on civil servants to brace up for the fight by the proposal to the Federal Government to retrench workers, who are above 50 years old in the civil service.

Abatan gave the charge while addressing the delegates at the 6th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference (SDC) of Amalgamated Union Of Public Corporations Civil Service Technical And Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).

The programme, which had the theme, ‘Trade Union Sustainability: The Role Of Education, Leadership Style and Ideological Commitment in Rebuilding a Strong Trade Union,’ was held at the National Commission for Museum and Monuments, Aleshinloye in Ibadan.

Stating that the plans would not see the light of the day, Abatan, admonished them to stay firm against all oppression and pursue the tenet of labour union.

The National President, AUPCTRE, Oyo State council, Benjamin Anthony, charged the delegates to be active on issues that are pertinent to the progress of members and union.
