As part of efforts to globalise and build a borderless Human Resource (HR) community, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, UK (CIPD) have launched the mutual recognition of membership (MRM) certification by both institutes.

The partnership, The Guardian gathered, will enhance the global recognition and competitiveness of Nigerian Human Resource (HR) professionals, providing CIPM members with access to international standards and opportunities within the global HR community.

At the hybrid official launch of the MRM recently, President and Chairman of the Governing Council, CIPM, Ahmed Gobir, said the alliance serves as an enabler to bring the wealth of global HR expertise into the Nigerian HR community while amplifying the country’s contribution to the global stage.

The move, he said, would expose members to a wealth of international resources, professional networks, and career-enhancing opportunities. To its members in Nigeria and in the diaspora, the CIPM boss said the collaboration puts them on the pedestal that unlocks cross-border opportunities in capacity development and expanded career opportunities, which further solidifies the institute’s position as the apex regulatory HR body to determine the standard of knowledge and skills to be attained by persons seeking to become registered as HR professionals/practitioners, thereby raising their standards from time to time.

According to him, with this partnership, members can attain the height of global thought leadership without their credibility being questioned.

“This partnership is also a reflection of our institute’s core promise—to continually provide our members with the highest standard of professional development, resources, and opportunities. By leveraging the strengths of both CIPM and CIPD, we are setting the stage for a future where our members and prospective Nigerian HR professionals will be recognised as global thought leaders and innovators in their industry,” he said.

Chief Executive, CIPD, UK, Peter Cheese, said the CIPD and CIPM Nigeria share a common vision to develop HR professionals who are future-oriented and possess a global mindset, able to embrace change and diversity to unlock the potential of people and enable businesses to adapt and transform.

Represented at the launch by the institute’s Oli Howard, he expressed both the organisation’s commitment to enabling and supporting the growth and mobility of HR professionals, as well as the sharing of knowledge and collaborations to promote the professional standing of HR.

According to him, “Together, we will create frameworks that transcend borders, offering our members the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research, global HR trends, and best practices that will redefine the future of work.”
