CIS Appoints Adesugba to Advocacy, Policy Committee

Professor Adesoji Adesugba

The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has appointed Professor Adesoji Adesugba, ACS, to its Advocacy and Policy Committee for the 2026–2028 tenure, bringing his experience in investment promotion, public policy and private-sector advocacy to the committee.

The appointment was approved by the Institute’s Governing Council at its meeting on September 3, 2026, and communicated in a letter dated October 5, signed by the Registrar and Chief Executive, Ayorinde Ezekiel Adeonipekun.

According to the Institute, Adesugba will contribute to the achievement of its mandate and support, facilitate and advance the implementation of policies approved by the Governing Council.

CIS said his selection was based on his professional expertise, leadership qualities and contributions to the Institute’s activities.

The committee is chaired by Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, FCS, while Babawale Jonathan Agbeyangi, FCS, serves as vice-chairman. It was inaugurated virtually on September 7 by the CIS President and Chairman of Council, Dr Fiona Nyako Ahimie, FCS.

Adesugba, a chartered stockbroker and Associate of CIS, has held senior positions spanning investment promotion, public administration, economic development and private-sector representation.

He previously served as a Director at the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), where he served from July 2020 to October 2023.

At NIPC, he was involved in investment promotion and policy engagement on issues affecting Nigeria’s investment environment. At NEPZA, he oversaw initiatives aimed at strengthening the administration and development of special economic zones, including institutional capacity building, investor facilitation and dispute resolution.

His public-sector experience is complemented by his involvement in private-sector advocacy. He is First Deputy President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and a National Vice President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).

In those roles, he participates in engagements with government and other stakeholders on enterprise development, investment and economic policy.

An alumnus of Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where he studied public policy implementation, Adesugba is also a lawyer and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom.

He is a Fellow of the National Policy Advocacy Centre and thematic leader at the African Policy Research Consortium.

Beyond public service and business advocacy, Adesugba has been involved in investment education and economic journalism. He founded and moderates Naija Investment House, an educational platform focused on investment in Nigeria’s capital market, including equities listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).

He also founded Chamber Telegraph in 2017, a publication covering economic development, business and chamber-of-commerce activities.

With his background in capital markets, investment promotion, policy implementation and private-sector advocacy, Adesugba is expected to bring a broad perspective to the CIS committee as it advances policies and initiatives relevant to Nigeria’s investment and financial markets.
