AS+A Communications has honoured former Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce (LCCI), Chief Onikepo Akande, Former presidential candidate and founder of Centre for Values and Leadership (CVL), Prof. Pat Utomi and some other individuals and corporate entities for their service to society.

The honours were bestowed on the national icons at the 2016 PR Forum/corporate and individual social responsibility awards and exhibition held in Lagos.

In his keynote address, Chief Ernest Shonekan advised corporate entities to always carry out their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR), which is giving back part of their profit to the community as a way of appreciation, which endears host communities to corporate bodies.

His words: “CSR is relatively new in the country especially when built on the backdrop of the emergence of the political entity called Nigeria. It is a way of giving back to the society or community, part of the profit made of an organisation or institution in appreciation. When a community is appreciated through this way, the action in turn, endears them to the corporate entity.

“It is a desirable thing for corporate entities to always appreciate the community in the area where situated, by that they are saying thank you. Many individuals run away from CSR, unknown to them when planned and executed properly it can be very helpful.”

He also urged individuals to give back as often as possible, saying, “individuals can also give back and do personal CSR. It is good to organise our own personal social responsibility; such recognition is much enjoyable when alive so you can savour the joy. Because whatever we do is noticed by people, which is what this award signifies.”
