Communication scholars elect Pate as president
A prominent mass communication scholar, Prof. Umar Pate, has been elected President of the Association of Communication Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ACSPN).
Pate was elected at the end of the 7th Annual Conference, and first virtual conference of the Association, which ended last week Thursday.
Secretary-General of Association, Prof. Nosa Ibe, proposed the nomination of Prof. Pate as the new President to succeed the pioneer President, Prof. Lai Oso.
The members therefore performed a voice vote that formally sealed Pate’s candidacy as the next man to head the prestigious association.
He succeeds Oso, who has been the President of ACSPN since its inception eight years ago.He is the current Dean of Media Studies at the Department of Mass Communication, Bayero University, Kano.
The two-day conference was attended by over 100 communication scholars and practitioners from all over the world.This year’s conference was themed: “Communicating Identities and Nationhood: Promoting Inclusive Democracy through Access to Information and Knowledge Societies.”
