The Save our Women and Girls (SOW&G) Foundation has established Girl Leaders and Mentors Club (GLAM) to empower young girls for leadership positions.

The Save our Women and Girls (SOW&G) Foundation has established Girl Leaders and Mentors Club (GLAM) to empower young girls for leadership positions.

GLAM, according to the foundation, is a platform for training, guiding and empowering young girls to be assertive, assume leadership roles and in turn mentor their peers.

At the launch recently, where about 50 girls were inaugurated into the club, Founder, SOW&G Foundation, Amb. Mrs. Unyime-King, said each girl would be mentored and equipped with the right tools and resources needed to effect positive changes.

She said the tools are the ones her generation needed to thrive, and achieve their dreams, while also passing on the baton to the next set of girls coming after them.

According to her, the aim is the belief that one can change entire communities, beginning with one girl, one family per time. She said the Foundation is committed to empowering women to represent their own interests and live responsibly in control of their lives by emancipating them from socio-economic shackles of dependency and deprivation, and works consistently with women and girls in the communities where its intervention initiatives happen, to achieve this goal.

“The idea, which powered the birth of the GLAM Club stems from the belief that when girls are given an opportunity to participate in their communities and the society as a whole they can help to foster powerful social and economic change,” Unyime-King said.
