FRSC identifies inadequate working tools as bottleneck to efficient operations

The Federal Road Safety Corps [FRSC], Akwa Ibom Command, has identified lack of towing tucks as one of its major challenges in carrying out its duties smoothly.

This was revealed by the state Sector Commander, Sunday Oghenekaro, during the 2017 Commemoration of Africa Road Safety Day and World Day of Remembrance for Traffic Victims.

He therefore called on the state government to come to its assistance as such would enhance the efficiency of its operations.

According to him, the absence of these work tools especially during the coming yuletide period sometimes made the Corps not to perform efficiently.

With the theme, ‘2020 Target: Reduce Road Fatalities and Serious injuries by 50 per cent’, he said that, the command had been experiencing difficulty in evacuating broken down vehicles anytime it occurred on the highway.

“I want to appeal to the state government that, the command needs heavy duty tow truck because quite often, we experience breakdown of vehicles on the road occasioned by articulated vehicles, tankers among others vehicles.

“Before we meet with construction companies that have heavy duty towing vans, it will take one whole day for them to show up and within this period, it is always chaotic.

“The tow truck will help us to remove obstructions on the road, which sometimes cause road crashes. It is very important that the command has at least one tow truck in its operation to ease removing accident vehicles that may cause obstruction”, he said.
