‘How to stop incessant strikes in varsities’
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Peter Olapegba, has called for commitment and a sustainable funding model to curb incessant strikes in universities.
Olapegba, who is the Chairman of UI@75, made the call in an interview with The Guardian.
He noted that in recent years, Nigerian universities had been bedevilled with incessant industrial actions, which, most of the time, paralyse academic activities.
Speaking on the development, the DVC said the way out of the incessant strikes, which not only occur in the universities but also other sectors, was good governance.
He said that once there is good governance, the government will do all things to provide a conducive environment, facilities, and proper funding.
According to him, “Let the government be responsive, responsible, and faithful to the agreement entered into, and there must be sustainable funding models for universities.”
