International Finance Corporation (IFC) has awarded EDGE experts, who work as advisors to the nine developers and financial institutions on their professionalism in green building projects.

Through its EDGE Green Buildings programme, the corporation recognised 13 new green building projects for sustainable pre-design and celebrated nine organisations for their post-construction project phases at Future Cities – Africa Green Building Summit 2.0 held in Lagos.

EDGE is IFC’s global green building certification programme designed to help property developers build and brand green in a fast, easy, and affordable way. EDGE has certified over 85 million square metres globally, with three million square meters in Africa alone.

EDGE-certified projects in Nigeria cover 712,395 square metres made up of 37 projects, representing energy savings of 25,244 MWh/year, enough to power 16 million homes in one year. Water savings from Nigeria’s EDGE-certified buildings amount to 785,056 m3/year, or 315 Olympic-size swimming pools, with CO2 savings of 13,772 tCO2/year, the equivalent to yearly emissions from 2,680 fossil fuel passenger cars.

As part of recognition at the event, Sterling Bank was presented with an EDGE Advanced Plaque for its Green Bay Estate and for its headquarters, Sterling Towers, which wrapped its 17 floors with solar panels for maximum energy efficiency as part of its bid towards a net zero carbon building.

Infracredit received an EDGE Advanced Plaque for its office building and is committed to promoting sustainable development in projects it finances through guarantees.

Lango Real Estate was recognised for achieving EDGE certification for 100 per cent of its portfolio of buildings within a targeted time frame of 24 months and received certification for two of its buildings, Circle Mall and The Wings Complex.

Lousol Properties Limited was awarded EDGE certification for retrofitting Atlantic House to meet EDGE standards, a 23-year-old, five-floor, A-grade office building on Victoria Island, Lagos.

Louisville Residential and Louisville Retail Podiums, two parts of a 167,000sqm mixed-use development in Eko Atlantic City on Victoria Island, Lagos, were awarded EDGE Advanced certification and EDGE certification, the largest project to date under Nigeria EDGE certifications portfolio.
