Lagos ministry trains staff on works ethics

To upscale the skill of its personnel, the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment has embarked on training of its officers on work ethics to enhance attitudinal change and effective and optimum service delivery.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of the Environment, Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye who declared the training opened in Lagos, stated that the three-day in-house training programme was designed for clerical officers, drivers, office attendants and cleaners of the Ministry.

Bamgboye averred that the training programme was organized to “reposition these categories of staff for an effective and optimum service delivery as well as prepare them for future challenges in their various chosen careers.”

The permanent Secretary stated also that the training programme was another milestone in the efforts of the administration of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to consolidate the base of his government and to ensure effective service delivery to the citizenry.

According to Bamgboye, the theme of the training course, “Work Ethics and Attitudinal Change for Effective Service Delivery” was carefully chosen to reflect on the ethos and norms of the Public Service, which are at the lowest ebb as a result of the decadence in the society.

“There is frequent report of indiscipline, disloyalty, corruption and other social vices emanating from Public Officers in the service. Today most public servants lack the right skills, attitude and knowledge for delivering effective social services to the populace,” he said.He emphasised the need for continued training and development of human resource for optimal performance and acquisition of required skills, attitude and competencies,

“The new Human Resource Management practice lays much emphasis on human capital development, learning and development and motivation of employees to enable them acquire the needed skills, attitude and competencies to perform their duties effectively and efficiently.”

“It is in this regard that we have painstakingly sourced for a Resource person as the facilitator for this programme, the Senadotan Resources Limited, who has a good knowledge of government operations to do justice to core topics like: Ethics and Norms of the Service and Communication in the Service,” he stated.

Bamgboye enjoined participants to use the opportunity provided by the training to develop their skills, attitude and knowledge to enhance their performance in their chosen career
