Mentoring platform empowers 400 women in various fields
An online platform, Mentoring Her, has empowered about 400 women in their specific career path. The platform, which makes use of machine learning, is focused on connecting female mentors and mentees to foster personal growth and development.
Speaking at a virtual press conference, Founder of Mentoring Her, Dr. Lolade Adeyemi, said the initiative aims to mentor, encourage and guide women to reach their full academic and career potential, as a lot of them do not have mentors to help encourage and guide them through their career paths.
“Having been operating in the U.S. for about a year now, it was time to bring it home to Nigeria. Nigeria is home. I am a Nigerian. We are launching now for people to benefit from our resources.
“This is a virtual platform specifically dedicated to women. It is a one-stop-shop where women meet other women that will impact their lives for the better,” she said.
She explained that females below the age of 18, who seek to join, would require a consent form from their parents, adding that every application goes through screening before accepted for security reasons.
“Not everyone that applies gets into the platform, as we have to conduct background checks on applicants to avoid those who are not genuine,” Adeyemi explained.
She said the platform helps connect like-minded females across different parts of the world; helps them learn career, academic, entrepreneurial and empowerment skills; and helps them achieve their life potential.
For interested mentors and mentees, it is simply a click to show interest for free of charge. “Everything is for free. Our 92 mentors do this for the passion and that is a means to give back,” she added.
The Country Programme Coordinator, Seyi Bamidele, noted that the platform is open to females aged 13 and above and mentors aged 21 and above, adding that entry requirements steps include creating a Mentor/Mentee profile, profile review, application approval, Mentor-Mentee matching, among others.
