Mushin Local Government has celebrated 11 retirees who bowed out of active service after years of dedication to the council, with Executive Chairman, Tunbosun Aruwe, urging them to prioritise their health, maintain financial discipline and remain active in their communities.
Aruwe spoke while addressing the retirees during a ceremony marking their last day in office at the council secretariat.
The chairman congratulated the retirees on completing their years of service, commending their dedication, professionalism and contributions to the smooth running of the council and delivery of essential services to residents.
He described retirement as the beginning of a new chapter and urged them to embrace it with pride, having contributed to the growth and development of Mushin Local Government.
Aruwe advised the retirees to undergo regular medical check-ups, eat healthily and get adequate rest, while wishing them good health, peace of mind, fulfilment and many more rewarding years.
He also encouraged them to remain active members of the community and share their wealth of experience whenever the opportunity arises.
The Head of Service, Lagos State, Bode Agoro, who was represented at the event by Esan Idowu, congratulated the retirees for their years of commitment and service to the public.
Idowu, however, urged the retirees to approach retirement with financial discipline, stressing the need to plan carefully and live within their means.
“Retirement comes with a different financial reality. You must learn to cut your coat according to your income, plan wisely and live within your means. This will help you enjoy a peaceful and fulfilling retirement,” he advised.
The retirees, in their separate remarks, expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman, Head of Service, political office holders, management and staff of the council for the support and warm reception accorded to them as they ended their active service.
The retirees are Lawal Oluwakemi, Amusat Oladapo, Oyinlade Omolara, Joshua Ilesanmi, Ajao Ajide, Abegunde Safurat, Oyebode Alaba, Osifuwa Oluranti, Agbomeji Fausat, Bolanle Odunlami and Akinsehinwa Adewunmi.
Certificates of retirement were presented to the retirees, alongside gifts including refrigerators, washing machines and other items in recognition of their years of service.
The ceremony was attended by council officials, colleagues, family members and other stakeholders who gathered to honour the retirees and acknowledge their contributions to Mushin Local Government.
The Mushin Local Government management also presented cash, washing machines and deep freezers to the retirees as a gesture of appreciation for their years of service to the state and local government.
The event later took a celebratory turn with the cutting of the retirement cake, music and dancing, as Aruwe joined the retirees and members of the council management on the dance floor.
