The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) is in discussions with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management to engage at least 50 corps members on yearly basis for a group Community Development Service (CDS) in insurance, the commission’s head, Market Development, Adeyemi Abubakar, has revealed.

He, however, explained that the 50 NYSC members to be engaged are those posted to states where NAICOM currently has zonal offices.

According to Abubakar, the commission would train the corps members on the importance of the insurance sector to the general public. After the training, NAICOM would license the beneficiaries as insurance agents.

Abubakar made this known in a presentation titled, ‘NAICOM market Development’ at the just-concluded 2020 seminar for insurance journalists held in Uyo.

Also delivering a lecture on ‘’Digital Transformation of NAICOM: processes and procedure’, the commission’s Deputy Director, IT, Abiodun Abike, debunked the claim that the emergence of IT had led to job loss, stressing: ‘’Digital transformation anywhere in the world has not and will never lead to job cuts but will instead, create more jobs for the people.

According to him, digitalisation has become a must for all, especially with the impact of Covid-19 on the global economy.

‘’With the trends, NAICOM is moving with the global economic realities. It is a new way of doing things or new ways of doing old things. Whether we like it or not, Covid-19 accelerated the digital economic space,” he said.
