New labour minister commits to harmonious relationship with unions
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, has expressed commitment to fostering productive relationships between the federal government, workers and organised labour.
He said this during his assumption of office at the ministry on Tuesday in Abuja.
In his inaugural address, Dingyadi assured Nigerians that he would prioritise harmonious labour relations and address outstanding worker issues, thereby creating a collaborative environment where the voices of all labour unions are heard and respected.
“The major schedule of this ministry is to ensure harmony and harmonious working relationship between workers and employees, labour unions, government and private organisations.
“I want to assure Nigerians that we are going to continue to ensure that peace is maintained in every nook and corner of this country,” he said.
According to the minister, it is important to carry everybody along as much as possible, to listen to all labour organisations and all labour issues.
“Together, we try to solve and resolve all outstanding issues. I am aware that several issues are still outstanding.
“We have been having some threats, very soft threats for that matter; we are going to address them to ensure that we have the needed peace,” he said.
The new minister, who was welcomed by the minister of state for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and other officials of the ministry, expressed his readiness to work alongside staff to achieve set goals.
Onyejeocha while congratulating the minister, assured him of her cooperation.
“We will cooperate with you and make sure that the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the President is brought to bear.
“This is where the labour ministry will be a new ministry, it is not a ministry of just reconciliation, but it shall remain a ministry of employment, productivity and empowerment,” she said.
