NGO empowers 400 Nigerians for business start up



About 400 Nigerians have been empowered with equipment and funds to start up businesses by Helping Hands International (H2I).

The non-government organisation, which caters for the less privilege in the society, gave out set of refrigerators, gas cookers, washing machines, generators, computers, plasma televisions among others, to start up businesses such as laundry services, restaurants, cyber café, ice blocks among other trade.

The Director and Ambassador of H2I, Mr. Obioma Njoko, said the organisation’s goal is to equip the less privilege with financial capacity and skill acquisition to enable start up their own businesses.


“We care about the public, we have trained over 5,000 to 15,000 Nigerians in skill acquisition such as computer appreciation, phone and laptop repairs, animal husbandry, farming, hair making, fashion designing among others,” he said.

He said the organization offers financial support to those who have already been empowered, but do not have the financial capacity to continue their trade.

Also speaking, the facilitator at H2I, Goodness Kalu said the organization, which has partners in Nigeria and other African countries, offers humanitarian services, giving out wheel chairs to the physically challenged in the society as part of their corporate social responsibility, as well as giving out scholarships to children whose parents cant fund the schooling and paying the medical bills of the less privilege stranded in the hospital, among other deeds.

He stressed that government have been unable to reach out to the less privilege in the society, urging government to partner with the NGOs in order to reach the grassroots to help alleviate poverty and unemployment in the country.

A beneficiary of the programme, Tunde Salami, who is into computer networking said he was given grant by the organization to boost his business.
