The Nigeria Institute of Training and Development (NITAD) has emphasised on the importance of digital skills to enhance service delivery in workplaces.

At the institute’s 31st yearly trainers’ conference, the forum called for necessary schedules to enhance the skills of the nation’s workforce in areas of digital operations, in line with developments around the globe.

Head of Service of the Federation, Didi Jack, stressed that the nation needs to strategically adopt measures to upgrade the skills of the workforce in the public and private sectors of the economy to achieve the desired improved efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.

According to her, a scheme has already been put in place to achieve a more vibrant workforce in the country’s civil service.

Jack, who was represented by the service’s Director, Alabo Adeyemi, said the primary objective was to equip civil servants with the relevant skills, knowledge and attitudes required to effectively formulate and implement government policies and programmes.

“I am therefore pleased to announce our renewed focus on learning and development initiatives designed to equip our civil servants with the skills and expertise needed to strive in this new era.”

The President and Chairman of Council, NITAD, Bullos James, noted that this year’s conference was apt due to the importance of using technology in service delivery.

“Everything that you want to achieve today with ease has to go through digital space. So, as trainers, we need to have these digital skills that will help us in carrying out our function as trainers and that is why we bring together all the trainers to come and learn from industry experts on how to utilise digital skills to get things done with ease,” he noted.

One of the keynote speakers at the event, the Emir of Wase, Dr Mohammed Sambo, highlighted some key strategies that could drive the growth and development of any organisation.

He said by implementing these strategies, organisations could harness growth, learning and development through innovation, productivity and success.

He emphasised that harnessing Nigerian human resources for growth and development requires a multifaceted approach that addresses education, skills acquisition, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

General Manager, Microsoft, Nigeria and Ghana, Oluwatomiwa Williams, explained that learning and relearning are key to organisational development.

The conference, with the theme ‘Learning and development, the key to thriving in a digital world,’ had attendees drawn from both the public and private sectors of the economy.
