The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Nigeria at its global digital economy summit (GDES) has urged youths to equip themselves with digital skills to contribute to economic growth.
The move, the chamber said, was part of efforts to raise members, who are specifically made up of young adults to become stakeholders in the digital economy.
The National President of JCI Nigeria, Olawale Bakare, who stressed that technology was having an impact across sectors of the economy, said it redefines how and where people work, increases the pace of work, and expands employment opportunities, among others, thereby, making the benefits of digital economy limitless.
He said the GDES tagged: ‘Digital Transformation: Defining our Success Pillars’, was an avenue aimed at building corporate relationships and promoting business exchanges.
According to him, in the wake of the unprecedented effects of the global pandemic, it has become imperative for Nigeria and indeed, the rest of the world to rebuild itself, economy, businesses and its human resources.
“It is in the view of these adverse times that the JCI believes that there is no better way of fulfilling its mission and vision in the world than being a force of empowerment to its individual members, communities and businesses in every country. This summit looks at the digital economy from a global perspective with a view to applying best practices that can guarantee success for the Nigerian digital ecosystem,” he said.
Speaking at the event also, Country Manager, Microsoft Nigeria, Ola Williams, said the company focuses on empowering Nigerians with the right tools, skills and capabilities that they need to participate in the digital economy.
She said Microsoft Nigeria places more emphasis on the gender inclusion of women to expose them to digital technology at their youthful age.
She revealed that the company is in partnership with the Federal Government to provide skill acquisition for youths, adding that certifications will be given for every skill learnt.
