Teach For Nigeria (TFN) has inducted the eighth and fourth cohorts of fellows and school leaders respectively, into its fellowship programme, equipping them with essential pedagogical and leadership skills to drive positive change in Nigeria’s educational landscape.

The 2024 cohort, trained under the theme ‘Teach Today. Shape Tomorrow. Your Leadership Matters Now’, had over 30,000 entries, however, only 505 fellows and 93 school leaders were selected.

Chief Executive Officer of TFN, Ayodele Olajiga, charged the fellows and school leaders to make every day of their two-year commitment count, emphasising the need for collaboration.  He urged them to harness their collective strength to drive social change in their respective placement schools and communities.

In his keynote address, Principal Education Officer in Lagos State, Adeola Adefemi, urged the fellows and school leaders to embrace a culture of selflessness, encouraging them to strive for excellence in everything they do and becoming the teachers every child in Nigeria needs.

In her words, “I didn’t come into this profession for money. When I was deployed to a school in Ile Epo, Lagos, I knew I had to stay in the community and make a change.”

Over the next two years, the 2024 fellows will serve as full-time teachers in underserved communities in Lagos and Ogun States, receiving ongoing support from TFN and its partner organisations.

As leaders, they will design and implement Be-The-Change (BTC) projects to address systemic challenges hindering children from reaching their full potential.
