The Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) has sought partnership with the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to reduce unemployment in Edo State.

The state chairmen of the association, John Obozokhai, during the inauguration of its new executives in Benin City, noted that the body was development-driven and law-abiding.

He said if the government could provide more tricycles for the association, the gesture would take more youths off the streets and engage productively.

His words: “This association is an umbrella under the Trade Union Congress (TUC). This is the only legal body empowered by the Federal Government to cater for the welfare of tricycle owners in Nigeria.

“I assure you that we are ready to cooperate with you to ensure adequate security in the state. We are no criminals. We have the database of all tricycle riders and any criminals within us will be fished out and handed over to the security agencies.

“We will continue to work with government for the betterment of the state. We would also want the state government to partner with us in terms of providing more tricycles to take unemployed youths from the streets.”

The state chairman of the TUC, Comrade Ohue Marshal, observed that the association was disciplined and committed to the development of the state.

He urged it to respect constituted authorities and always channel its challenges to the appropriate authorities.

Marshal charged the members on good conduct notwithstanding their scant literacy.
