WACOT India Rice Mill employs 3,500 persons in Nigeria
The newly commissioned WACOT Rice Mill by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Argungu in Kebbi State has employed no fewer than 3,500 youths in the country.
Delivering his speech at the commencement of its new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the General Manager, Corporate Affairs of the Tropical General Investment, Sadiq Kassim, disclosed that the factory was the first phase of WACOT’s rice milling plan.
He said the factory targets 500,000 metric tons by next year, adding that with the company’s production and expansion plans, it would engage another batch of 3,500 in different fields.
The programme, which was attended by the wives of the governors of Zamfara, Oyo, Kebbi and Niger states, was held at the company’s premises in Argungu local council of Kebbi State.
Kassim, who stated that 120,000 metric tons of rice mill has a capital investment of over N10 billion, was capable of processing over 120,000 metric tons of paddy rice yearly.
He disclosed that the factory has empowered thousands of farmers, adding that they purchase paddy rice from about 50,000 farmers in the state.
He also stated that as part of the company’s social responsibility efforts, WACOT rice mill has focused greatly on women, children, healthcare and nutrition- core pillars of the RMNCAH+N campaign championed by Mrs. Aisha Buhari.
“Besides our school renovation programme and health camps, we have also facilitated the setting up of women self help groups where they go through skills acquisition trainings to produce soaps, creams, disinfectants and other products,” he added.
