Academy of letters inducts Obi Of Onitsha, Jahman Anikulapo as honorary fellows

• Teju Kareem to be honoured for excellence in humanistic practice
The 27th convocation and investiture of new fellows and conferment of award of excellence in humanistic practice of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) holds tomorrow at the DLI Nurudeen Alao Auditorium, University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba , Lagos. The event is scheduled for 11:00am.

Among the 12 named as regular fellows are Prof. Ebunoluwa Olufemi Oduwole, Prof. Temisanren Ebijuwa, Prof. Umaru Pate, Prof Muhammed Inuwa Umar-Buratai, Prof Ameh Dennis Akoh, Prof Charles Emeka Nwadigwe, Prof Emeritus Alkasum Abba, Prof Gideon Sunday Omachunu, Prof Obiajulu Augustine Emejulu, Prof Gbemisola Aderemi Adeoti, and Prof Victor Chiagozie Ariole. Prof Akinwumi Ogundiran is Oversea Fellow while Prof Akinkunmi Adegbola Alao is a regular fellow from 2024.

Two notable figures in Nigerian media, Mr. Jahman Oladejo Anikulapo, former Editor of The Guardian on Sunday and Dr. Lasisi Olagunju, will join the revered monarch, His Majesty, Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, as one of its Honorary Fellows for 2025.

The ceremony will also feature the conferment of the Awards of Excellence in Humanistic Practice on Mr. Laolu Ogunniyi, Alhaji Teju Wasee Kareem, and Mr. Musa Alao Adedayo.

Earlier in the year, Jahman Anikulapo was recognised as UNESCO Defender of Cultural Rights Award 2024.

Anikulapo, 62, founder of Culture Caucus Advocate (CCA), Programme Chair of the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA), and Director of iRep International Documentary Film Festival (@irepfilmfestival), has been involved in Nigeria’s arts and culture scene for the past 40 years.
