The management, staff and students of Chrisland Schools recently treated parents, friends and well-wishers to a colourful variety night. The event held at Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos and titled: ‘Behold the Star,’ was indeed a glamorous affair.

With students from all the school branches participating in the programme, the children were at their entertaining best, as they displayed honed skills through brilliant performance of drama, art, culture and music, to the delight of excited guests.

And to celebrate the season, a drama on the birth of the Lord Jesus was also presented. One of the highlights of the well-attended event was a raffle draw, which saw some lucky parents going home with such items as washing machine, microwave sets, TV sets and freezers, among others. The star prize was a ticket to Dubai.

The children were not left out of the part of the jamboree, as 20 students were awarded scholarship during the year.Explaining the motive behind the scholarship, the Managing Director of Chrisland Schools, Mrs. Ibironke Adeyemi said: “The idea was to ameliorate the effects of the increasing number of out of school children in the country, especially the brilliant but needy ones.”

Adeyemi said the scholarships were, however, not limited to Chrisland students, but also to deserving non-Chrisland students, even from outside the state.“Aside the support given to challenged parents, the school also has its own internal academic scholarship for brilliant students to serve as an encouragement. This year alone, I think we have about 20 children on various forms of scholarships.”

Commenting on the programme, she said aside celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, it was also a platform to showcase the students’ talents in the art and music sector. “Apart from academics, it is necessary for them to get total education. We believe in the total child, and we take every aspect as important,” she added.

Expressing her gratitude to parents and school staff for their cooperation and efforts at upholding the original school standard, the Chairman and Founder of Chrisland Schools Ltd., Dr. Winifred Awosika also appreciated the talents identified in the children. An elated Adeyemi, who also commended the students’ effort noted: “I don’t know about any other school that has 20 music educators. So, I didn’t expect less.”
