United by content and driven by innovation, stakeholders, under the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN), have sworn in Wale Adenuga as a grand patron and Yinka Adebayo as patron of the association.
The induction, which held at the Gallery Hall, LCCI, Ikeja, Lagos, also welcome back old members, reviewing EMCOAN Constitution and handing over of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to Director General (DG) Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and honouring fathers owing to their dedication and supports over the years.
Chairman, BOT, EMCOAN, Opa Williams, said: “We have been on for 14 years and we have over 80 and we supply electronics media 75 per cent of content in Nigeria.
“The significance of this is to improve standard of operation, production, discipline. Everyone inducted met a level of standard.”
President, EMCOAN, said: “There is nothing as good as love and unity. For making the Unity of EMCOAN possible, I will like to dobale and say thank you to Chief Wale Adenuga. Our BOT Chairman Dr Opa Williams, the President Emeritus, Jibe Ologeh, Madam Agatha, Madam Debbie Odutayo, Chief Emeka Ossai for their positive role.
“We are proud to have the EMCOAN family together under one umbrella.”
Also, Director General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, said: “As regulators, we appeal that you continue amplifying Nigerian Narratives though local content. Advertisements in the course of your programmes must have the Advertising Standards Panel’s approval before exposure. This is to avoid unsubstantiated and fraudulent advertisements.
“We are impressed by the level of unity and hopes that you continue to work together as a team to move the industry forward. Let us be reminded of our shared responsibility to promote excellence, accountability, and innovation.”
Adebayo who is also the Group Executive Director at Omnicom, West and Central Africa, said: “Nigeria has a population of 230 million people, adventurous who are looking for content, unfortunately, streaming platforms are the most benefiting from it; I think a lot can be done by empowering, supporting and encouraging our terrestrial platforms. You cannot access streaming platforms without data but terrestrial does not need data so, the audience terrestrial can deliver is huge but it needs to be driven by content because people don’t listen or watch a station because they love it but because of content.”
On need to regulate the content creation arm of the creative sector, he said: “Both trained and untrained are now into content creation so, we need to ensure that a person must meet a standard to produce content, then monitor and encourage them. Those doing it rightly should be celebrated and everyone should have it at the back of their minds that a big brother is watching and there is a reward mechanism.
