Entries open for Nigerian teen authors prize


Entries have opened for the 2020 Nigerian Prize for Teen Authors. The yearly prize is sponsored by Alhaji Bala Abdullahi Kwatu and administered by the Hill-Top Creative Arts Foundation, Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. The prizes are for poetry and fiction (Novella or collection of short stories) and are open to only Nigerian teen authors who are still in secondary school. The prize carries a reward of N250, 000 for poetry and N250, 000 for fiction.

Five copies of the entry with evidence of Nigerian citizenship (photocopy of Nigerian passport or National identity card), birth certificate, letter of recommendation by school and parents, last term’s report sheet, should be submitted by the authors in accordance with the genres.

Published and unpublished books should be submitted to the Hill-Top Creative Arts Foundation, by the stipulated deadline. Failure to meet the stated conditions (even by one item) will lead to the disqualification of the entry. The Nigeria Prize for Teen Authors is for student-writers who are in secondary schools at the moment of entry.

Books published before 2018 will not be accepted. Complete contact information, including full contact address, emails, phone numbers of school and parent and other relevant contact information plus passport photograph in school uniform should accompany each submission.

A student-writer will enter only one published work. An entry must not have been submitted for another literary prize elsewhere. An entry (whether published or not) must never be repeated in the subsequent years of this prize.

This prize is for original works of the entrants. The sponsor or the administrators shall not be responsible for the consequences of any plagiarised work.
Already, the Board of Trustees of the Foundation has appointed a panel of judges for the Prize. They are Ismail Bala Garba and Mahmud Zukogi of Bayero University, Kano. The outcome of the process of selection by the judges, as approved by the Board of Trustees shall be final. All entries must come in by December 30, 2019.

Winners will be announced and presented with their prizes at the finals of Hadiza Ibrahim Aliyu Schools Festival (HIASFEST 2020) on February 15, 2020 at Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre, Minna, Niger State.Entries should be sent to:
