To encourage Nigerians to learn to question more than they are being taught to believe, Dr. Obi Enweze has donated 100 copies of the poetry collection, The Tragedy of Being Born Beautiful, to the National Association of Liberated Tigers (NALT).

To encourage Nigerians to learn to question more than they are being taught to believe, Dr. Obi Enweze has donated 100 copies of the poetry collection, The Tragedy of Being Born Beautiful, to the National Association of Liberated Tigers (NALT).

NALT is a not-for-profit organisation that aims at enhancing equality, equity and social justice in their resident communities in Nigeria and abroad. The U.S. based literary and social critic has written notable reviews of contemporary African literature like Arrows of Rain, The Man Lives and Foreign Gods, Inc. by Okey Ndibe.

He is satisfied with contents of the poetry collection, which is also dedicated to him and three others that the poet reflected on his experience with their persona while working on the collection.

Enweze commended the author of the book, Cookey Iwuohia, for his ingenuity. He said he has found The Tragedy of Being Born Beautiful an insightful work that offers a paradigm shift to the realities of the situation in Nigeria and Africa and believes that it is an important book for Nigerians to encounter at this time in history.

The Tragedy of Being Born Beautiful is a thought-provoking, multi-layered collection of poems divided into four parts – Dawn, Sunrise, Sunset and Twilight.
Much like the seasons of man, the poems alternate between tender, angry, helpless and heartbreaking as they address age-old questions and emotions of life’s despair and the loss of self-purpose.

Not long ago, the African Studies Centre at Leiden University, the oldest university in Netherland founded in 1575, purchased The Tragedy of Being Born Beautiful for their library, an indication that the book is slowly gaining traction in the global field of knowledge.
