Concerned that youths in Nigeria are not properly groomed for the future, Mavaro Entertainment Africa has come up with activities to engage them.

Concerned that youths in Nigeria are not properly groomed for the future, Mavaro Entertainment Africa has come up with activities to engage them.

One of such, which is set to hold on May 1, is a beauty pageant. The pageant has already attracted 26 registered contestants.

The aim of the beauty contest, in particular, is to show what the beauty of an African queen should look like. “It is not just physical beauty, but intellectual,” the organisers noted. “They should be knowledgeable about African culture, generally.

“She is also expected to showcase her knowledge of African recipes and the history of the state she comes from.”

The organisers stressed that the pageant would showcase the role of women in nation-building, as well as debunk the erroneous impression that women are objects that could be exploited by the opposite sex.

They added, “most girls given birth to in the cities know nothing about their cultural heritage. Girls claim to come from states they do not know anything about: their food, fashion, how to make the homework and how she shows respect to the family and many more attributes that are expected of them as true African women.”

We hope this will help pass a message to the society generally to uphold our values as it is our identity.”

The first prize in this category is N300,000, while the second prize winner will go home with N200,000 and the third-placed person will get N100,000. There are also consolation prizes for the contestants.

The other contest coming up in August is a treasure hunt. The organisers said this is another way to keep youths engaged, most especially, as this year precedes the election year. “These activities will take their minds off violence and engage them meaningfully. They will be tutored in various fields, which will be useful to them and society at large. The winners will be playing the role of advocates and spokespersons to other youths like them by visiting schools and motivating them on why they should strive to be useful people in the society, abstain from drug use, cultism and other vices.”
