As far as 2021 is concerned, budding Nigerian artiste, Mukhy has immersed us into his creative sphere. His sound is evolving and is accompanied by quality, timeless visuals. The music industry hasn’t seen half of it.

Born Mukhtar Oladapo Sarumi, Mukhy releases the visuals of ‘My Race’ from his latest project entitled ‘Posh Nation’. Here, as in many of the songs he has produced, Prodby106 did some heavy lifting. The single depicts Mukhy’s desire to forge his own path and make progress regardless of the situation and listeners can’t help but feel motivated. He teams up with label mate, Glitch on this feel-good Afro-influenced street anthem. It is relatable and replayable.

Lyrically, ‘My Race’ tells the story of an ambitious youngster with big dreams. The protagonist is unphased by the pressures of society, the progress of others and knows his time will come. The song employs pidgin English and other colloquialisms to relay its message; a nod to the far-reaching relatability of the song.

The visuals open with a drone shot of tranquil beach scenery that gives an emotive, tropical feel.

The audience is then met with sober faces in a ghetto settlement off the shores of the Atlantic in Lagos. This Nosachii-directed video gives a classic representation of the typical lifestyle of ghetto dwellers. It includes shots of a barber, hairdresser, mechanic, a gang playing cards, children playing by the seashore, relaxation at a local bar, kids playing football, and Mukhy joining in the fun. This video is a true depiction of how the wheels of life keep moving whether you decide to run your race, or not.

The video is laced with popular dance steps like the legwork, galala, slow wine, etc done by people of all ages, gender, and faith. ‘My Race’ video is culture-rich, niche, and detailed.

The visuals of ‘My Race’ is out today, 28th March 2021, and is available on all streaming platforms.
