StarTimes on initiates PAOFF awards to grow local online film content

Brands and Marketing Director, StarTimes Nigeria, Qasim Elegbede; veteran Nollywood actor, Adebayo Salami and Director Over the Top Media (OTT) StarTimes, Tony Tuo, at the Pan Africa Online Film Festival (PAOFF) event held at the National Art Theatre, in Lagos.

To encourage the creation of local content, as well as ensure that more filmmakers are engaged in the Nigerian film industry, StarTimes ON has announced a Pan Africa Online Film Festival (PAOFF). The quarterly film competition is opened to local film and music video producers.

Already, the satellite TV broadcaster haslaunched a fans voting system for all videos that make the contest. The awards to be given include, Favourite Film Ranking Board, Favourite Short Film Ranking Board, and Favourite MV Board. All videos would be listed in the three boards basing on their categories and rank according to votes from StarTimes ON users.

The first video on each board will win the quarterly Best Film Award, Best Short Film Award and Best MV Award. The producer will get $1500 as prize.

Operation Director of StarTimes ON, Ariel Wang, said that the world is in online age and local online video contents would be an important pillar of StarTimes ON’s content strategy.

“That’s why we established PAOFF awards and we sincerely hope the awards competition wouldencourage the development of local online video creation and see the rise of African online video industry.”
