The Design Director and Creative Director, Oluwatoyin Olusanya and Tioluwafe Olusanya are the skilled people who worked on the Alariya Collection. Each dress was designed to be big and maxi like the standard boubou. However, there are few differences to each gown. One of the gowns was designed to look big whereas the extra allowances of fabrics on the side have been sewn in such a way that the gown appears big, but the wearer is quite comfortable and the dress is fitted to wearer’s size. Another of the gowns is designed in such a way that the pockets are added to the sides of the dress or the front of the dress to look like a mini satchel.
The Alariya Collection’s maxi dresses feature flowing designs that complement various heights, with lengths that fall graciously around the legs. Each gown’s construction showcases meticulous attention to detail, with secure stitching and reinforced seams for durability.
Oluwatoyin’s design direction and Tioluwafe’s Illustrations fit quite well together as both persons were able to create a collection that is perfect for gifting every woman regardless of age. The Alariya collection requires little to no styling for it to be rocked. It truly represents the collection name as the wearers can don the boubou and be party ready.
The dress has minimal designs on it but it is free-flowing as well as fit-to-size for the wearer. This shows that there are various sizes for various body sizes. The collection’s color palette features vibrant hues – evoking the warmth and energy of Yoruba celebrations. The flowing fabrics and delicate textures create a sense of effortless elegance, perfect for gliding across the dance floor or strolling through festive gatherings.
The significance of the Alariya collection is in the fact that it jumps on the latest trends of women wearing either boubou or Oleku which were both popular in the latter years but are now making a comeback in the Nigerian fashion industry. Fashion is a cycle after all, people either renew the old styles or find a way to infuse the new with the old and that is what has been done to the boubou, the old has been retouched by the modern to give the new school boubou.
Alariya Collection is a masterful revival of the classic boubou, perfect for the modern woman seeking effortless elegance and comfort.
