A fire outbreak has destroyed four containers and eight shops at Gezawa Market in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, with properties worth millions of naira lost in the incident.
The inferno reportedly occurred around 5:15 am on Monday, November 2, 2026, after the Kano State Fire Service received a distress call from a resident, Ibrahim Sani.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Kabiru Jafaru, said firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the market.
The fire reportedly affected one shop and seven temporary shops, alongside four containers, all of which were completely razed.
The Director of the Fire Service has urged residents and traders to observe necessary fire safety precautions, particularly with the onset of the harmattan season.
The incident comes days after another fire outbreak destroyed 110 buildings and structures at Kofar Ruwa Timber Market in Kano.
