Get Guardian on GoogleChairman, Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Lagos State Chapter, Dr Aroso Olufemi Joseph has called for reorientation of its members and review of curriculum contents in universities for effective and optimal service delivery.
Speaking at an event to mark the World Veterinary Day in Lagos, Joseph said the profession had been faced with threats.
He said: “The challenges are not only from outside, but also within. We need internal re-orientation and tweak the way we do things. We must tinker with the curriculum of training to prepare students for the realities of the 21st century.
Joseph harped on professionalism, saying, “We must train vets that will accord animal welfare a pride of place, imbibe entrepreneurship and be positioned for public health duties in the face of emerging and re-emerging diseases in man and animals.”
He urged members to promote professional ethics to guarantee sustained relevance in the society.
